How to Vary Your Keywords
Search engine optimisation is something of an art form online. Keywords form the backbone of any web page that wants to be seen and noticed for the right reasons by the search engine spiders, so it’s essential that you include them in your web copy.
Now you would be forgiven for thinking that all you need to do is write your web site copywriting, pepper it with keywords and forget all about it. But that isn’t the case.
No matter what internet business you are in, people’s preferences will change over time. If you are selling toys on eBay for example, you might find that wooden toys are popular at the moment. But next month it could be electronic toys that have the edge.
If you keep yourself informed about changes in your marketplace you will be better able to alter your keywords accordingly.
Here are some tips for success:
- Look at what keywords other websites and companies are dominating. What keywords could you dominate that no one else is?
- You don’t always have to change the keywords on your home page. Try changing them on some of your other pages as well.
- Monitor your site to see whether the changes you make bring in more traffic and sales.
- If you use Google AdWords try bidding on keywords and phrases you haven’t used before. Again, monitor your results and make sure you set a budget.
The number one rule is to remember that the keywords that are popular today may not bring you as much traffic next month. It always pays to keep ahead of what the competition is doing, and try out different key phrases that describe more targeted areas of your business.
In this way you can also reach some brand new customers.
Cheers!
